Hura Tapairu Manihini
Pāitaita turu’i ora (the alchemy of life), was performed by Nāpua Mexico Australia at the Hura Tapairu Manihini competition 2024.
Tumu parau (theme):
Pāitaita turu’i ora 'Alchemy of Life' was written by Jocelyn Magos, Nāpua's director and aims to challenge traditional notions of romantic love.
Romantic love often imposes societal expectations and detracts from self-discovery. Instead, the song emphasises self-love and the individual's responsibility to cultivate personal growth. It also strives to dismantle the stereotypical role of women in romantic relationships. This piece rejects the notion that women must be selfless, steadfast, accommodating, and patient. It challenges the idea that sensitivity equates to weakness and encourages women to seek fulfilment and love within themselves and friendships rather than solely in romantic partnerships.
